With the most incredible coastline on offer, WA is full of amazing spots you can romp with your dog. Pet insurance Australia takes a look at the top areas to visit with your best friend.

With some of the most spectacular coastline in the whole of Australia it’s no wonder that WA boasts some of the best doggy beaches around. With so many to mention we’ve found a few top spots around the Perth area, however many beaches are dog friendly, but it’s paramount you check the signage to ensure you follow the rules and regulations when it comes to off-leash beach-time.

Some of the more common rules are;

  • Your dog needs to be well trained, under control and boast good doggy-manners.
  • Your dog needs to like ‘other’ dogs.
  • Even in off -eash areas you need to take a lead with you.
  • Don’t forget to pick up after your dog.
  • Also check for times, some areas only allow dogs off leash at certain times of the day.

CY O’Connor Beach – North Coogee
A wonderful beach that provides ample sandy play alongside a good reserve to shake all that sand off. A good stretch of beach with local dog friendly cafes nearby. The perfect Sunday doggy adventure.

Hillary’s Dog Beach
With a kilometre of white sand to run and play, Hillary’s Dog Beach is certainly a crowd favourite. Just be aware of the horse beach on the northern side which is off limits to dogs in certain times (check the signage). Don’t forget your towel and drink bottle!

Leighton Beach – Mosman
This beach offers two kilometres of pure freedom for your pup to enjoy. The great thing about Leighton is that it is set amongst the sand-dunes so you don’t need to worry about your pooch running back into the carpark. Plus; the ample coastline will allow you pup to play without much interruption.

Peasholm Street Dog Beach – Scarborough
Another popular spot for beach dogs is this great beach in Scarborough. Another great two-kilometre run for your dog. This is one of the most popular dog friendly running and swimming zones.

This beach is just perfect for dogs who love to run. A long white sandy beach front that provides ample room for everyone to explore and play. The beach even has a handy shower you can hose off your beloved dog before driving home. A great spot for the whole family to enjoy a good run and play.

South Beach – Fremantle
For our south-side dwelling West Australians, South Beach is one of the best dog beaches in Perth. A nice calm swimming spot with sand and grass to play on. Don’t forget your picnic and towel and make a great day of your adventure.

South City Beach – City Beach
This is a great spot for your avid swimmer as the surf is normally a good small size for your average dog. A great two-kilometre stretch of pristine sand with plenty of smells and adventures to keep your pooch happy.

Trigg Dog Beach – Trigg
This great dog beach has wonderful dog-friendly access. This is a favourite amongst dog owners as it tends to be a littler quieter than the other dog friendly spots. Pristine waters and white sand…ahhhh the best of WA that every dog can enjoy.

What about walking trails?
It’s a great time of year to enjoy a lovely weekend walk alongside your dog. Here are some top spots to enjoy the great outdoors. Don’t forget good shoes, your drink bottle (for both of you) and a good sturdy lead.
